Aim of the course

This course examines the philosophical foundations of sport and Olympism.  It explores the relationship between the two and their core values.  It also addresses key ethical dilemmas arising within sport and Olympic contexts.

By the end of the course the students are expected to develop the following skills or learning outcomes:

• Understand the basic skills of philosophic inquiry
• Acquire the specific philosophic skills of conceptual analysis, argument construction, and theory development
• Describe the philosophical foundations of sport and Olympism
• Comprehend the basic theoretical frameworks with which to analyze sport and Olympic issues philosophically.
• Comprehend the nature and function of ethics in sport and Olympic contexts.
