The aim of this course is a) to help students gain special knowledge regarding the International Olympic Academy and the National Olympic Academies’ creation and their role to the development of contemporary education programs, b) to present the challenges, the need, and the opportunities nowadays for the development and implementation of Olympic Education Programs inside the school and c) to address and present ethical and social issues inside the context of physical activity/sports.
After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Distinguish the points which make the Olympic Philosophy a distinct field of the Educational Philosophy.
- Realize that the aim and the values of Olympic Education have been evolved upon a period of time adapted in the rapid growth of the sports and the social changes.
- Comprehend the concepts of Olympic Pedagogy, Olympic Education and Olympism.
- Identify the different theoretical approaches of Olympic Education and its implementation in schools.
- Demonstrate the values of Olympic Education and give examples of them from the everyday life.
- Give emphasis during teaching on Olympic Education objectives and supporting their students' cognitive, emotional and motor development according to them.
