Strategic and operational planning of major sports events

Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

The aim of this course is to develop students' academic and practical knowledge and understanding of the need for and importance of strategic and operational planning in major sports events. The course content and methodology equip students with relevant academic knowledge and understanding of professional policies and practices. The course extends students' understandings of the role, scope and management of sport events, from conceptualising to planning, staging, evaluating and reporting event outcomes. 

 

After completing this course students will be able to: 

  • Plan and apply appropriate strategies in corporate and business level for developing competitive advantage within sport event organizations and enterprises  
  • Be familiar with existing strategic management tools and be able to apply them to sport event organizations and enterprises 
  • Be informed on the contemporary theories and practices of strategic management in sport events 
  • Understand the range of sport event stakeholders and their importance in organizing a successful event  
  • Understand the importance of project and risk management in sport event planning. 

 

The lectures include a range of interactive and collaborative learning activities. Key concepts are taught using individual and group exercises, problem solving, and case studies. The course content is supported by online resources such as readings and videos. Exchange forums are provided for students to interact with each other and their professors. Students are expected to read and reflect on the educational materials provided which include research journal articles, case studies, and associated practical and academic sources. In-class sessions build on these sources through active learning and collaborative problem-based exercises.
