Important Notice
Attendance in this course is compulsory during the regular spring semester when it is taught. Students who do not attend the scheduled sessions will not be eligible for evaluation.

The course focuses on a series of specialized topics of International Studies. It combines a broad & inclusive overview of International Studies with a more detailed focus on specific case studies ranging from security issues to emerging powers and from progress in the European integration to political transformations, conflicts, and socio-economic developments in the Middle East, as well as the region’s role in global affairs. Students will draw upon a wide variety of resources: books, research articles as well as think tank studies and international organizations reports.

The course aims to:

Introduce students to key concepts and specialized topics in International Studies.

Provide a broad and inclusive understanding of global political, economic, and social dynamics.

Familiarize students with case studies on security issues, emerging powers, European integration, and developments in the Middle East.

Highlight the role of political transformations, conflicts, and socio-economic factors in shaping regional and global affairs.

Encourage critical engagement with diverse academic and policy-oriented resources, including scholarly works, think tank studies, and international organization reports.

Cultivate analytical and comparative perspectives that connect theoretical frameworks with contemporary international challenges.
